Thanks to their interest in nonprofit work, Robyn and John met in San Marcos, TX in the summer of 1996 and embarked
on a wonderful and amazing journey.
Robyn landed in Texas through a summer fellowship with a nonprofit organization based in Maxwell, TX. John volunteered
his time to one of their summer programs in Chicago and decided to do the same program, but in Georgetown, TX -- where Robyn
would be as well. But they didn't know that.... John arrived in Texas and stayed with the male fellowship participants...who
happened to live across from the female participants.
John and Robyn meet....and at dinner with all the fellows at a wonderful chinese restaurant (August Moon), while watching
the Real World, these two college kids knew something was working between them. The one-week program came and went,
and so it was time for John to go back to Chicago while Robyn continued her summer fellowship.
Houseboy?
But...John stayed a little bit longer. And then a couple of weeks more to continue his reciprocated interest for
being around Robyn, to the extent of doing houseboy chores for the female fellows (laundry, ironing, cleaning house, etc.)
in order to appear like not overstaying his welcome and to "work" for the free hospitality. Nonetheless, before his
return home, he purchased a James Avery ring and asked Robyn to continue the relationship despite it would be one of distance...for
she was a New Mexico Lobo and he a Georgetown Hoya.
Are you sure? Are you sure? No, for real...sure? Sure.
And the relationship continued...Oh yeah, Robyn got John the same ring and surprised him before his return to
Chicago. Nothing like a symbol of love to remind you of that significant other. They have worn those rings ever
since...and now prepare for a different set of rings.
Long Distance Love
